Small business stress is real.  We don’t start businesses for them to stress us out.  But if you find yourself drowning under the weight of daily tasks then it can take you to a dark place.  How you handle this stress will differentiate you from everyone else and help prevent small business burnout. Let’s face it, everyone experiences some level of stress, but it’s what you do about it that will contribute to your overall success.  Let’s look at three specific ways you can gain some control over your business and balance your life.

Get Things Done with a Power Hour to Eliminate Small Business Stress

If you’re anything like me, you truly wish that you hand more hours in the day.  We all do, but we only have 24 hours.  And guess what? We all get the same number of hours each day, so it’s up to you to manage your time wisely.  Create a Power Hour and during this hour unplug from everything and focus.  This means no phone calls, emails, and social media.  No interruptions.  Take this time to move at least one item off of your to-do list.  At the end of the hour reward yourself with a short break and then go back into interrupted mode so you can get some other things off of your list done. Also, don’t forget to include some ME TIME in your schedule.  Make sure one hour of every day is your “POWER ME HOUR”.

Don’t Say Yes to Everything

Shonda Rhimes dedicated a book to saying Yes to everything in her title, “The Year of Yes.”  I thought that while this was good for her, it wasn’t good for everyone else.  Most of us are too quick to say, “Yes” to events.  We should all set boundaries and take into account all of the things that we’re physically capable of doing.  We’re only one person and we can’t do everything, so one of things that we must learn to do is say, “No.”  You don’t need to attend every event or speak at every conference.  You need to be strategic about everything that you say YES to.  If it doesn’t advance your career or your mission in business and life, then you should not do it.  Also, when you are considering to include something in your plans, think about it this way if you can’t say, “HELL YES!” because it works for your mission and vision, then you should definitely say, “HELL NO!”

Keep Your Sales Funnel Full

One of the things that stresses out most entrepreneurs is they won’t have enough sales to pay their monthly bills.  Well, I understand. Finances are the things that probably keep most entrepreneurs up at night.  It is a legitimate concern. The way to alleviate this concern is to develop a business plan to attract prospects and customers on a continuous basis, which is something that we assist our members with at the Network for Women in Business.  This all starts with understanding who are your ideal clients, which social media platforms are they on and what are places are they hanging around online?  We also show you how to utilize your free and inexpensive marketing avenues first before jumping into expensive advertising campaigns.  Also, if you don’t have much experience with putting together social media campaigns we show you how to do that as well.
